John is an explorer at heart and a storyteller by nature,

Whose dedicated to capturing characters, cultures and causes.

Drawn to opportunities to shine a light upon those whose voice may otherwise go unheard, his narratives seek to enlighten audiences, connect communities and inspire thought.

An accredited member of the Association of Photographers and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society his work can be seen in China Newsweek, Forbes’ and The New York Times, along with British Airways’ First, Carve, Land Rover, Oceanographic, Sidetracked and Suitcase Magazines.

The Everest based Everest story Not to Conquer has been the subject of interview by Arc’teryx and features in Sidetracked Magazine’s Field Journal. The cultural study Generations has been featured by China Newsweek, Hasselblad, the Royal Photographic Society, as well as Mr Feelgood and Suitcase Magazine, and was exhibited in Paris and Milan in 2022.

Raised on a small island he forged an early connection with the sea.

Having learnt to sail, scuba dive and swim by the age of 10 his love of the ocean would lead him to study it at Cardiff University and into the Royal Navy to begin a career at sea.

As a Bomb Disposal and Diving Officer he travelled travel far and wide, and to people and places that he never imagined he would see. You can read his detailed biography here.

Captivated by the characters and cultures that he encountered far and wide, he would listen to tales of tradition and stories of survival, documenting details and moments in time to share upon his return.

Passion became practice and inspired a change in path.

One that has led him from the waves of the North Atlantic Ocean to the depths of the Caribbean Sea, stepping out from the shadows of the Himalaya and into the light of the Mongolian High Altai.
