John is an internationally published adventure, advertising and portrait photographer.
I discovered my love of this medium while studying in New York, a skill I nurtured at university, and practice continued within a first career in the Royal Navy.
My creative journey has since led me to shoot stories from a variety of locations, and whether within the deserts of Mongolia, the mountains of Nepal, or the shores of Scotland, my aim is to craft images whose elemental quality convey the character of the subject and reflect the fabric of the setting.
I’m an accredited member of the Association of Photographers and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and my images have been published internationally in a variety of adventure, advertising and brand based journals, as well as by the prestigious camera manufacturer Hasselblad.
Combining my skillset as a former Navy Diver with photography I travelled to Bridgetown to shoot Stewards of the Sea, an ocean based assignment that illustrates the tireless efforts of the Bajan community as they nobly continue a series of conservation projects.
Earlier in the year, and this time a little further from the sea, I journeyed to the western Mongolia to trace the traditions of the Kazakh community.
The Generations Project was an immersive shoot, where I lived with two Kazakh families to document their lives, convey the characters and unveil the next generation of Eagle hunters and huntresses.
Both challenging and rewarding, this project was an experience of a lifetime and an absolute privilege to have this rarefied insight.
Since then I continue to shoot a balance of commercial and personal projects that are focused toward advertising, editorial and portraiture.
